This paper will be addressing a chronic disease known as rheumatoid arthritis that â€Å"is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system – which normally protects its health by attacking foreign substances like bacteria and viruses – mistakenly attacks the joints. This creates inflammation that causes the tissue that lines the inside of joints (the synovium) to thicken, resulting in swelling and pain in and around the joints.† (Foundation 2016) The interviewee in this paper, Robert Doe, age 68, has been diagnosed with this chronic autoimmune disease. The communication was also heightened through the loudness of speech as Mr. Doe has cognitive impairment with hearing. It is important that when interviewing cognitive impaired interviewees that the interview is taken in a quite environment such as a home or office, that you use a firm loud voice, only ask one question at a time, and that the interviewee is given plenty of time to answer each topic and question asked. If you have someone to look up too, you should probably make sure they know a lot, because if you know someone that’s smart and knowledgeable to look up too, you may learn a little something about life. That’s what Henri is to John, he was especially a really good and knowledgeable role model, because of the fact is that if it wasn’t for Henri, John would’ve survived. How was the format of writing for I am Number Four? I could say that the author used creative writing. The book was amazingly creative and really interesting, the author must’ve had a real imaginative mind just thinking about the plot to this story. The structure of the story was great and was well done thought about, many things that was actually relevant to the plot. I enjoyed how he actually gave John a life, and he was engaged with relationships and friendships throughout the story. The concept was also very interesting on how he based it on a boy who was supposed to seem like a regular person but instead is a supernatural human being who is basically playing and disguised as a regular person. Reading this book was quite entertaining, because books like these show that you characters fiction or non-fiction have modern day problems. It also shows that everybody deals with struggles in life but you have to try and persevere to get past them. Role models in life are important; they can entirely change your life and make you see different and better views of the necessary things of life. Last, the creative writing used by the author made the story have a good plot, great structure, and a really interesting story.

These two works are written on the same line of interest; but on different periods. The ways that these pieces are structured follow the conventions of both poetry and prose writing. From the free verses of a prose up to the almost rhythmic and tune bound poem, these two pioneers of Norse mythology represents different ways of passing on Norse mythology. However, this is not the nature of similarities and differences that this paper would seek to delve into. Instead, a closer analysis on the evolutionary pattern discernable from these texts will be explained and expounded in this paper. The reason for this is simple; these works have been written on a long differentiated timeline which can further imply that the details of these texts may pertain to similar message but by being modified to the present day forms of literature and even to the present day conventions. Adding up to its primary objective, this paper would also try to establish a more elaborate manner of relating such changes to the general aspects of Norse mythology. The Elder Edda and the Younger Edda The Younger Edda or the Prose Edda is dated approximately around 1220. It was said to be written by one of the pioneers of Nordic mythology, Snorri Sturluson. Prose Edda as established earlier is the younger version of the Poetic Edda; following this line of logic, it can be said that the Poetic Edda, even if without a specific date of writing and compilation, started to exist earlier than the 13th century. It can even be further said that the authorship of the Poetic Edda as far as history and attribution is concerned up to today is still a very big mystery. As said in the earlier parts of this paper, the similarities and differences of these two major Nordic mythology pieces of literature will pave the way for a better understanding not only of the Nordic mythology, but also of the evolution of literature in general. For the sake of organization, this paper will explain the justifications it will use to establish such an evolution through the basic information discernable from these literatures. On the Start of Human and Gods’ Existence Following the Poetry Edda or the Elder Edda the basic aspects of the start of human and gods’ existence can be best understood through its poem titled the Seeress’ Prophecy or Sybil’s Prophecy. The visionary in this poem prophesized that process of creation, destruction and renewal can be seen in the first stanzas of the poem (Bellows n. pag. ). In a way the seeress saw the creation of the whole world in a very chaotic setting. The strong tensions with the houses of Esir and Vanir are included in her prophecy, alongside with the destiny of their conciliation. She equally foresaw the trickery of Loki and the punishment accorded to the crime to be done. This setting is even put more value through the citation that the long brewing war between gods and giants will only result to their equal destruction. However, the seeress still shone a sign of hope by stating that good things are still destined to arise from the primary disasters essential to the formation of the whole world (Bellows n. pag. ). However, in this part of the poetic Edda the seeress also foresaw a glint of good and desirable things such as the famous golden halls of the dwarves (Bellows n. pag. ). There is also an imminent sense of redemption which can be seen in this part of the Poetic Edda, the tragedies that she foresaw will be countered by an inevitable rise of another parch of green earth after the total destruction of everything that is considerably bad (Bellows n. pag. ). The same can be discerned from the Prose Edda as translated by Brodeur, life started from an almost dramatic unfolding of every single feature of the whole earth. From the simple grass to the deepest depths of the see, the whole world was formed in a high level of likeness (Sturluson 7-11). Odin as the head of both lands and humans journeyed to establish the kingdom that he assigned to twelve dooms men (Sturluson 12). Everything is specifically created accordingly, as narrated in the Prose Edda the beauty of the whole world even transcend up to the descendants of the gods alongside with the other beautiful things in the world. However, bad things appear to be an inevitable part of the whole world. The existence of these negative things is cited in the Prose Edda through the coming into life of creatures of worse nature as compared to those that are created out of the creatures which are created in the likeness of the gods. The existence of these bad natured creatures further resulted to the turning of negative events such as war, trickery and chaos as seen in the section of the book, Gylfaginning. Even if gods may experience their downfalls because of their own doings, there is still hope for redemption. Such as seen in the latter parts of this section of the book, balance was restored, even if it took a high toll on each of those that seek to return balance to the whole world (Sturluson 56-58). Happiness such as the regaining of the domains of the gods’ sons and daughters is a turning point for the redemption of the whole world from the horrors it suffered from the bad natured characters in the prose (Sturluson 58). The Existence of Mythical Creatures The recognition that creatures of other nature exist can be discerned from both Poetic and Prose Edda. These creatures when compared to the present day conventions of being human can be considered as mythical in nature. The common classification of these creatures is the dwarves, elves and giants; each accorded with their very own nature of interest and characterization (Bellows n. pag. ). General characterizations on these individuals can be seen in the Poetic Edda. However, more detailed characterization of these kinds of creatures can be seen in the Prose Edda. The differentiation that Struluson put on the different norns shows that such creatures exist (28). The three basic kinds of norn such being the gods, elves and dwarves can be seen also be seen in the Prose Edda similar to that of the Poetic Edda (Sturluson 28). The Basic Nature of the Gods In the Poetic Edda, the basic nature of the gods can be seen in the poem Sayings of the High One. In this poem Odin was characterized through the exposition that it is plausible that gods have a strong will in imposing what they have to say (Bellows n. pag. ). The importance put by Odin on the need to put value on his teachings show that it is within the nature of gods to put the notion of death behind their subjects and replace it with a stance not only of belief, but even the highest sense of reverence. It can be quoted that Odin stated that death is irrelevant and even immaterial to the whole act of believing. On the other hand, the nature of the gods can be discerned from the Prose of Edda through the long characterization of each god provided in the prose. Odin for example is treated as the All Mighty who governs all; this is followed by the characterization on other gods as his children (Sturluson 26). This characterizations found in the prose can also be considered as the representation of a divided rule among the gods; each god is accorded with his or her own power. Poetry was used in some newspapers during World War one as a means of recruitment for soldiers. One journalist Jessie Pope was famed for this type of War poetry and was criticised by many poets who focused on the horrific truths war of for them and all soldiers. War poetry often gives us a accurate impression of the suffering soldiers had to endure. Poetry is also a valuable source of information on war. In most historical books and reports we are given only detached, objective and factual information. War poetry from the likes of Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon give us their own personal feelings of war and the death as reported through their eyes. The two poems I will be comparing will be John Scotts pre 1900 poem The Drum and Wilfred Owens post 1900 poem Dulce et Decorum est. Both of these poems are anti-war but are written by people who have had very different experiences of war. John Scott who was a Quaker and opposed to all violence wrote The Drum in 1782. Wilfred Owen was a soldier in the First World War. The things that he witnessed during this time left him deeply scarred; he expressed his feelings in his poems. The title of the poem The Drum refers to the recruiting drum played around the countryside by the army. The Drum is associated with war and in this poem as well as in the poem On The Idle Hill its use is clear. The first verse gives us the background to the drums use. We are told of how thoughtless youths are attracted to its sound and the glamorous side of war it portrays. The poem begins with I hate, immediately stating the poets feeling. We are told of the drums discordant sound as if the sound of the drums spreads displeasure and disorder. The second line uses the word parading followed by the phrase and round being repeated. This gives the impression that this happens again and again. It is also possible that this is like a childs rhyme emphasising the involvement of youth. The focus on the young being victims of the drums attracting sound is shown with he use words like thoughtless and lures. The phrase To sell their liberty for charms sums up Scotts belief that the young are giving their freedom away to seek wars mistaken glory. Their search for glory is displayed in the phrase Ambitions voice commands. This Personification shows us that the call for glory is part of military life but at the end of the first verse we are given the first example of what thoughtless glory will lead to. Alliteration is used to describe how the recruits will go on to fight and fall in foreign lands. This demonstrates how terrible it was as the soldiers will die in lands that mean nothing to them. The second verse also begins with the words I hate reinforcing Scotts personal feelings. In this verse he concentrates on the inevitable suffering caused by war that, he starts a list of horrors with To me, again personalising the poem. The listing with and repeated over and over makes it seem that the litany of destruction is just being added to continuously. To end the poem Scott Personifies the word Misery as if it was living in the hearts and minds of the soldiers. The title Dulce et Decorum est is part of the old Latin saying that it is a fine and honourable thing to die for your country. By using this as a title Owen is making a statement to his intended audience who he resented deeply. The first verse describes nothing but absolute horror and exhaustion. Words like haunting describe the horror while a lot of Alliteration is used in phrases such as knock-kneed and the trudge of troops to show the level of tiredness. The phrases are used along with others like Bent doubled like old beggars and coughing like hags to reinforce the hellish conditions even the Five-Nines are spent from exhaustion. The word all is used twice to show that no one escaped the torment. The second verse begins frantically reflecting the panic of the men as shells of Gas fall around them. The men are in a life and death situation and the use of just in time demonstrates how lucky they have been to survive. But one man has not been so fortunate and his death in the sea of green is described in great detail. We are told how the was drowning as he watched helplessly. In verse three the idea of suffocation from the gas is reinforced. The inhumane situation is described when we are told the man body was flung on a wagon, this is not the heroic death that people believed they would have. Owen tells us that the sight of the dyeing man still haunts his dreams. The man is described with words like plunges, choking and drowning. The thought that even though the event has past the horror still lives with him again showing things which are very personal. In the final verse of the poem Owen is addressing the readers mostly likely those at home who still promote the war. He again refers to the gas attacks by using the smothering but he also talks about his own dreams asking the reader by using the you if only they could witness what he has. Owen uses the word flung to describe how they treated the mans body, this word shows that the mans death had no meaning. He then goes on to describe graphically the mans appearance as he lyes dead on the wagon. Phrases like devils sick of sin, froth corrupted, Obscene as cancer and vile incurable sores send forth strong imagery of horror. In describing these things Owen in the sense to make a greater impact. Sight is incorporated through the use of the word watch then the word hear is used and finally taste by using the phrase bitter as cud. The poem ends with Owen addressing those at home such as Jessie Pope who readily tell youth who seek glory that war is a great and honourable thing. He uses My friend when addressing these peopleperhaps an element of sarcasm but the poems end line is the most significant of the poem. Owen calls the saying Dulce et decorum est Pro patria mori the old lie, not just a lie the lie that every youth at that time would have known. Owens title for the poem is only have the saying the rest he tells at the end maybe so that people will understand what dying in war is like so that they can make their own minds up on how honourable it is. Both of these poems send out a clear message that war is a terrible and horrific thing for all involved. Both poets are very resentful of those who recruit the young to fight. Scott speaks of the thoughtless youth who sell their liberty for charms and in a similar vain Owen tells of children ardent for some desperate glory. In both poems we are told of wars misery but in must be said that Owen has used far more brutal and horrific imagery. I also think that because Owens war experiences helped to produce such a hate of war that there is more passion and personal feeling n his poem. Scott gives a very general view of war that although is quite true is not as striking or as affective. Scott does make good uses of poetic techniques such as Alliteration and Personification to make his feelings come alive to the reader. He uses a rhyming scheme of couplets to make the poem like a nursery rhyme reinforcing the feeling that youth are the victims. Owens Poem is full of his own personal life at war. He demonstrates his hate of war and the horror of it which haunts his sleep time and time again. This poem would have made a strong statement to those who supported the war and made Owen unpopular with many but the graphic imagery would have made many stop and think about the reality of war.

Kant's Attack on the Amphiboly of the Concepts of Reflection ABSTRACT: In the neglected 'Amphiboly of the Concepts of Reflection,' Kant introduces a new transcendental activity, Transcendental Deliberation (Kemp Smith calls it 'Transcendental Reflection'). It aims to determine to which faculty a representation belongs and does so by examining the representation's relationships to other representations. This enterprise yields some powerful ideas. (1) Some of the relationships studied have great interest, numerical identity in particular. Indeed, seeing Kant discuss it here, one wonders why he did not include it in the Table of Categories. (2) Kant gives a solid argument for the necessity of a sensible element in representations, something not found elsewhere in the Transcendental Analytic. (2) Kant gives a solid argument for the necessity of a sensible element in representations, something not found elsewhere in the Transcendental Analytic.The Transcendental Analytic of Kant's Critique of Pure Reason ends with a little appendix on what Kant calls the Amphiboly of the Concepts of Reflection. As an appendix, the passage is more than a little curious. The point that Kant eventually gets around to defending, that we are aware only of appearances, not things as they are in themselves, is familiar, but the argument that Kant now gives for it is entirely new and so interesting that one wonders why Kant relegated it to an appendix. Second, the passage introduces an important new concept, namely, numerical identity. For the first time in the Critique so far, Kant treats the notion separately and gives it important work to do. The Table of Categories does not so much as mention numerical identity, even though the concept would seem to be at least as good a candidate for categorial status as, say, modality. Third, the passage argues for the claim that knowledge requires sensible intuitions as well as concepts. Prior to the Amphiboly Kant has of course asserted this many times — but try to find an argument! Here he offers one.
